Webinar: Social Media in Workplace Conflict
9th March 2018
12:00 UK time
No one can deny that social media are here to stay. Services such as Facebook and Twitter are part of many peoples’ everyday lives and, while they can be a benign source of communication or entertainment, when people are in conflict, they can become weapons.
When mediating workplace conflicts, we are increasingly seeing disputing parties using social media to attack each other, either directly, or, more often, behind their backs.
Examples of how social media can be used during interpersonal conflict include:
- Spreading rumours
- Telling secrets that were told in confidence
- Sharing embarrassing photos
- Encouraging others to ostracise the victim
This webinar will look at the issues surrounding social media’s part in modern interpersonal conflicts and consider how this should inform mediation practice.

Who are UK Mediation?
Founded in 1999 by Dr Mike Talbot, UK Mediation have come to be recognised as the pioneering thought leader in mediation and mediation training.
Based in the United Kingdom and operating all over the world, UK Mediation uses only the most experienced mediators and adult educators: resolving disputes for people or training them how to do it for themselves.
We are mediation specialists. We understand how and why mediation works, we are experts in training and qualifying mediators, and we are passionate about what we do.
We know that a lot of mediators are throwing accreditations round like they are going out of fashion, so we will make it simple. We have all of the accreditations you would expect as well as Ofqual and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Not to mention we are the only mediation company to carry the Investors in People and ISO9001 awards.
